Who collects the bags?
Your bags will be collected by registered collectors in vans clearly marked with the Rag Bag logo. Our collectors will also have identification with them. If someone collects your bag in an unmarked van please contact 0800 032 6008 and we will inform the police.
What happens to the bags?
Once the bags have been collected they are sorted, graded and recycled in Scotland. Our factory provides employment for 200 local people. Once they have been sorted and graded, the good quality items are then sold to customers abroad, generating employment and supporting entrepreneurship in the Developing World whilst providing affordable, good quality second-hand clothing. The poorer quality items are recycled into wiping cloths for the oil and printing industry or made into mattress fillers. The plastic bags are also recycled.
How much money goes to the charities?
50% of funds raised goes to charity and 50% is spent on running the scheme.
Over £20,000 was raised in the last quarter of 2007 and estimates for 2008 is over £100,000.
What do you collect?
We collect all types of unwanted textiles including adult’s and children’s clothes, paired shoes, hats, bags, belts, curtains, towels and bed linen. It is important that you remember to pair shoes by tying the laces together, or pair shoes with an elastic band. We take all qualities of textiles, even ripped or with buttons missing!!!
Where should I leave my charity bag?
Please leave you bag on the pavement outside your house and make sure it is clearly visible from the road.
Can I leave additional bags?
Of course, please make sure the bags are watertight.
What do I do if I miss the collection or my bag is missed?
