You may have seen on the news recently the growing problem of Bogus Clothing Collectors.
So-called 'bogus collectors' prey on the good will of the public and take donated clothing to make a profit for themselves.
Typically, the householder will receive a leaflet through the door appealing for donations of unwanted clothing to be distributed to poor families in Eastern Europe or the Third World. Householders are asked to leave the goods in plastic bags by their front door. These are later collected anonymously by unmarked vehicles. Some of these companies even steal clothing donations intended for specific charities.
If you notice a van without a Rag Bag logo collecting our clothing bags, please call us immediately on 0800 032 6008 and we will contact the local police immediately. Please let us know the registration number of the vehicle if possible, and the address where the donations were stolen. This will help the police to arrest the thieves and importantly, return donations to the rightful charity.
If you have any doubts about a specific collector please contact the Textile Recycling Association on 0870 042 8276 or www.textile-recycling.org.uk to find out if the collector is registered with them.
